An out-of-school computer game design program
Welcome to the online home of Code Phreaks, the program that teaches you how to make your very own video games, simulations, animations, and digital stories. Code Phreaks is a Chicago-based programming club headquartered at the Northtown branch of the Chicago Public Library. Our members work on computer game design, robotics, animations, and a variety of other multimedia projects. Creativity and collaboration are among the core values shared by our members as we transform our meeting space each week into a unique maker space where imagination meets invention.
We also host occasional gaming events, Robocode tournaments, and coding dojos. We offer regular coding workshops that focus upon the Scratch, Alice, Starlogo, and Greenfoot environments, in addition to workshops that focus upon mobile applications development using Java or App Inventor.
Each year we host International Scratch Day in Chicago, the largest event in the Midwest celebrating Scratch, the programming environment developed at MIT's Media Lab. View pictures of our 2015 Scratch Day program (on Facebook).
Membership in Code Phreaks is free and open to anyone in grades 5 - 12.
Code Phreaks was formerly known as the Game Design Club, a program of Game Maker Academy established in 2007. Read more about the history of Code Phreaks.
